What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
Deferred:
verb (defers, deferring, deferred) [ with obj. ]

Raisin:
a partially dried grape.
Fester:
verb [ no obj. ]
(of a wound or sore) become septic (infected with bacteria); suppurate (formation of pus): I developed a tropical sore that festered badly | (as adj. festering) : a festering abscess.

Crust:

Syrupy:

Sags: To sag -
to sink downward under weight or pressure or through lack of strength: the bed sagged in the middle

Load:
a heavy thing that is being carried or is about to be carried: "in addition to their own food, they must carry a load of up to eighty pounds".
